MCMASTER UNIVERSITY 2024-25 ENROLMENT DATES

2024-25 FALL & WINTER ENROLMENT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Enrolment Dates are available to view in your Mosaic Student Center on June 12
  • You will be randomly assigned an Enrolment Appointment within your academic Level
  • Enrolment Appointments, MyTimetable, and the Mosaic Class Search (a.k.a. the Master Course Timetable) become available at 2pm on June 12
  • Enrolment begins on June 19
  • You can enrol any time after your Enrolment Appointment opens, but we encourage you to enrol as soon as you can on the day of your Enrolment Appointment
  • You must enrol in all mandatory NURSING and HTHSCI courses for both Fall and Winter terms when your Enrolment Appointment begins in June
  • Please note: if you are completing electives in the Fall and/or Winter term(s), you can continue to update, add, and change your course(s) until the last day to make enrolment changes (add/drop date)
  • Refer to the McMaster University Sessional Dates for the drop/add dates, as well as other important dates and deadlines

Enrolment and Timetable Information

As of June 12 at 2pm, you can access your Enrolment Appointment and the Class Search (a.k.a. the Master Course Timetable) in Mosaic and in MyTimetable. This allows you to save schedules to your favourites to easily retrieve them when it’s your time to enrol. You can also add courses to your shopping cart in Mosaic. We do highly recommend logging into Mosaic or MyTimetable to plan your schedule before your Enrolment Appointment. To determine your Enrolment Appointment, login to Mosaic and navigate to the Student Center tile, then select the Enrolment Dates panel.

  • Please note: Even though classes are in your shopping cart, you are not enroled yet and a spot in the section is not held for you. You will have to wait until your Enrolment Appointment to successfully add these classes.
  • To determine the courses you need to complete for your program for all Levels, including electives, review your Academic Advisement Report in Mosaic. This report shows all courses completed, all courses in-progress/enroled, and all courses to be completed for your program. Please see here for the steps to access and view this report: Academic Advisement Report (PDF). *Be sure to expand all headings so you can see the full report.
  • Additionally, you can consult the BScN Program Offerings in the Undergraduate Calendar to view all course requirements.

Please visit the Office of the Registrar’s website for details on:

The Steps to Enrolment using Mosaic
The Steps to Enrolment using MyTimetable

MyTimetable is a virtual schedule builder available via the Create My Timetable tile on the homepage of Mosaic. Based on your personal preference, you can enrol via MyTimetable or within the Student Centre tile in Mosaic.

How to know what sections you can enrol into

Students in all streams, at all sites, will enrol through MyTimetable or Mosaic but there may be different sections specifically for you, depending on your site (McMaster, Conestoga, and Mohawk) and/or program stream (Basic A, Post-RPN E, and Accelerated F). Please watch the below video for more details:

Additional Enrolment Resources

  • In advance of your Enrolment Appointment, ensure that there are no holds (financial blocks) on your Mosaic account as financial blocks will prevent enrolment. To remove the hold, you must contact the appropriate student fees and payment office for their site
  • Often there are multiple sections of a course and some sections may only be available for certain types of students (e.g. students from Conestoga Basic A Stream or students from Mohawk Post-RPN E Stream)
    • If enroling via Mosaic, refer to the Course Details video for help on viewing the Course Details to find the Class Notes; these notes indicate the site and/or stream that the section is for
    • If enroling via MyTimetable, at the top left-hand side you can select your campus (e.g., McMaster); this will help you find the right sections
    • An error message saying that you do not meet the reserve capacity for the section means that you are attempting to enrol into the wrong section for your site and/or program stream
  • You must enrol in your Fall and Winter term courses when your Enrolment Appointment opens in June
  • For multi-term (A/B) courses, you only need to enrol into the A portion in the Fall term as this will automatically enrol you into the B portion for the Winter term
  • It is best to add all required courses to your shopping cart in Mosaic or to your tentative schedule in MyTimetable and then add all courses at the same time because many courses have prerequisites and/or corequisites
    • If you receive an error message that you do not meet the requisites for a particular course, in most cases this is due to attempting enrolment without the corequisite course(s) needed and/or that you do not meet a prerequisite for the course
      • A prerequisite is a requirement to be fulfilled before enrolment in a course is permitted. Typically, this is the successful completion of another course or courses, or being registered in a particular Level
      • A corequisite is a course which must be taken together with another course in the same term

Electives are courses which are not designated in your program, but which form part of the total number of units required to complete the program. McMaster offers a variety of courses across all Faculties that students can complete to satisfy their elective requirements. This is your opportunity to take courses you are interested in, and its up to you to decide which electives you would like to take. Students in the BScN program may also take NURSING or HTHSCI courses offered by the School of Nursing toward their elective requirements (to a maximum of 6 units).

How many electives do you need?

The Academic Advisement Report (PDF) in your Mosaic Student Center details all elective and required courses. *Be sure to expand all headings so you can see the full report.

Additional elective requirements include:

  • Minimum 6 units from Level 2 or above coursework
  • Students may, if they wish, complete a maximum of 6 units from non-mandatory NURSING and/or HTHSCI courses
  • Level 1 Basic (A) stream students and Level 2 Post-RPN (E) stream students do not complete any electives in their first Fall and Winter terms; Accelerated (F) stream students are not required to complete any electives

*All elective requirements must be completed by the end of the first term of Level 4 as students are not permitted to complete any electives in the final term of the program

What is Level 2 or above coursework and how many units is a course worth?

  • Courses are designated Level 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. The level of a course is designated by the first numeric digit in the course code (ex. PSYCH 1A03 is a Level 1 course while HISTORY 3A03 is a Level 3 course). Courses designated Level 2 or above are called Upper-Level courses.
  • Units define the ?weighting of a course. Three-unit courses are usually one term in length and six-unit courses are usually two terms in length. You can determine the unit value of a course by looking at the last numeric digit(s) of the course code (e.g., PSYCH 1A03 is a three-unit course and FRENCH 1Z06 is a six-unit course).
