Dr. Michael McGillion of the School of Nursing is a co-lead on an important new study featured in a recent issue of the BMJ (British Medical Journal).

The research project involves a post-operative remote monitoring study called the PVC-RAM trial. Researchers found that after non-elective surgery, patients sent home with a remote-monitoring device were more likely to have medication errors caught and less likely to report pain than those who received standard care. Nurses monitor the patients’ symptoms using the device.

The project involves McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) and their joint research centre, Population Health Research Institute (PHRI). More information can be found on the PHRI website: PVC-RAM STUDY.
