IN CONVERSATION WITH: Caroline Moore, Research Coordinator

Tell me about your role and responsibilities.

I arrived in Canada from New Zealand and started my career at McMaster in 2012. I have been a Research Coordinator in the School of Nursing since July 2019. Before I started my current role, I worked in the Department of Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics.

In my current role, I am responsible for managing the daily operations of the EMBOLDEN study ensuring we achieve expected timelines and deliverables. On any given day I could be supporting faculty and students, preparing ethics submissions, developing knowledge translation materials, or maintaining relationships with public and patient research partners. 

What made you decide to go into this line of work?

After working in the lab both here and in New Zealand, I decided that I wanted to shift my focus to clinical research – working with people and contributing to research making a real-world impact. I was especially excited by the concept of partnering with the community in research.  

Do you have any special memories from your work?

Working with members of the community, listening to their stories, and lived experiences as they relate to EMBOLDEN. This has made me realize the importance of including the people who the research is targeting in the entire research process. Also, working with an interdisciplinary team allows you to think about research from different perspectives, affording a more holistic approach to study design.

What do you enjoy most about working at McMaster?

No two days are ever the same, every day is an opportunity to learn something new! Being supported by your employer to pursue professional development opportunities to improve personal impact is a wonderful thing. I am continually challenged and equally supported by faculty and colleagues.
