Resources, Forms and Assessment of Credentials

Part 1: Nursing Graduate Program Welcome & Orientation

Welcome to the Nursing Graduate Program at McMaster! Here are your next steps as you prepare for the upcoming year:

  • Visit the McMaster website and become familiar with the campus.
  • Visit the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) website and become familiar with the Resources available to you. 
  • Complete your Health Screening Requirements (see NARS below)
  • Complete your Police Records Check (see NARS below)
  • Log in to Avenue to Learn (A2L) McMaster and become familiar with the Nursing Graduate Program Communication Hub. 
  • Review the program requirements on our website and in Avenue to Learn to become familiar with course options and electives.
  • Email your Advisor or Supervisor to set up a time to meet with them in late summer/early fall to review your learning goals and education plan. 
  • Once registration is live, ensure that you have registered in SGS 101 and 201 - mandatory courses that are required by the School of Graduate Studies. These courses must be completed by September 30 of the academic year. 

Non-Academic Requirements (NARS)

The McMaster ​Nursing Graduate Program has several non-academic requirements that need to be completed before students begin in the program or attend clinical placements.

  • Police Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening) : Must be updated annually and sent to the Faculty of Health Sciences Professionalism Office
  • Annual Health Screening: Must be updated annually and sent to the Faculty of Health Screening Office. Forms and information can be found here.
  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers: Must be updated annually and sent to the Graduate Program Office at gradson@mcmaster.ca 
  • Mask Fit Training and Testing: Must be updated and sent to the Graduate Program Office at gradson@mcmaster.ca 
  • Online Health and Safety Training: Must be completed upon entry to the program (or if it expires during the program) and includes WHMIS, Fire Safety, AODA

The process for an assessment of credentials begins with you contacting the nursing regulatory body in the province/country in which you wish to work.

They will provide you with forms that must be completed by the School of Nursing.

Please request a transcript from the Office of the Registrar.

The transcript should be addressed to the nursing regulatory body in the country or province in which you wish to register and also be sent to the School of Nursing in HSC 2J41.

The School of Nursing will complete the forms and send them directly to the nursing regulatory body to which you are applying.  Forms are sent to the Regulatory body by courier.

PLEASE NOTE: Completion of the forms will take approximately 12 weeks depending on the complexity of the application.

As of September 1, 2017, the fee for each set of forms is $250.00.

The following methods of payment are accepted:

  1. Cheque – made out to McMaster University
  2. Cash or debit
