Two faculty members in the School of Nursing have been honoured with awards by the Canadian Associations of Schools of Nursing (CASN) this year.
Dr. Joanna Pierazzo was selected as the recipient of the 2022 CASN Academic Administrative Excellence Award. The winner of this award is “an administrator who has met significant challenges and has developed innovative strategies to strengthen the quality of nursing academic programs in a nursing school.” Those who nominated Pierazzo gave examples of how she “initiated integration of Indigenous health knowledge throughout the undergraduate curricula; led major policy and development work in the SON related to student support; and developed serious gaming learning programs to support the development of community health nursing competencies.”
Dr. Michael McGillion was selected as the recipient of the 2022 CASN Nursing Research Excellence Award. The winner of this award demonstrates, among other qualities, “sustained research activity in a substantive area of relevance to nursing practice, education, and research or policy development; commitment to mentorship of students and colleagues engaged in the research process; and leadership in strengthening the profile of nursing research within academic, service and/or non-profit sector organizations.” Those who nominated McGillion called him “a world leader in virtual nursing care” who has “engaged nursing trainees to be leaders who are now themselves recognized as leaders and key experts.”
The CASN virtual Awards Recognition Event will take place on Monday, November 21, 2022. Congratulations to both of our school of nursing faculty receiving these highly competitive national awards.
