The School of Nursing is pleased to announce McMaster University was selected as the gold medal winner of a recent award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE). The gold prize was for work on the school’s 75th anniversary project, in the Best Event category, offered in partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement.
Laura Escalante, alumni officer, led the project from the alumni side. “I was pleased to partner with the School of Nursing as they planned the 75th anniversary. We worked through suggestions for programming together, and the alumni office provided support on program logistics and communications, 75th anniversary donations, and event support surrounding the three webinars that the SON offered. The alumni office launched a 75th anniversary virtual book, which was very popular with SON members,” says Escalante. The SON and alumni office partnership also allowed for some collaborative special touches, such as tying in the School of Nursing Words of Wisdom to the 75th anniversary, and the alumni Question of the Week Club provided messages of support to essential workers in honour of the School of Nursing’s 75th anniversary.
Judges for the CCAE commented that the work done by the SON and the alumni office “was very broad in scope and created opportunities for people to be involved in many ways. It was very timely given the pressures on nurses during the pandemic.” Judges described the anniversary events as “thoughtful and well-coordinated.”
“We’re grateful to the Alumni Office for their creativity and hard work in helping us celebrate this milestone anniversary event,” says Dr. Sandra Carroll, vice-dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and executive director, School of Nursing.
