Dr. Naomi Thulien, an assistant professor in the School of Nursing, has a new appointment with the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to serve with Dr. Brenda Vrkljan as co-chair of the Faculty of Health Sciences Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee,” says Thulien. “Tackling social and structural inequities and fostering a sense of meaningful inclusion are central to my work as a researcher, clinician, and educator. Moreover, addressing health equity and disparity is one of the three key areas of research excellence at the School of Nursing. I am inspired by the clear commitment to inclusive excellence from the Faculty of Health Sciences leadership team."
In their announcement, members of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee described Thulien as possessing “a passion for work related to health equity and continued advancement of equity, diversity and inclusion. This passion has extended into her teaching as she was the lead inaugural teacher of the Primary Health Care – Global Health Nurse Practitioner Program at University of Toronto prior to joining McMaster in 2018. Her area of research focuses primarily on working with the community to tackle the social and structural inequities that cause and perpetuate youth homelessness. Her clinical practices are based in the Toronto and Hamilton area, working with young people who face inclusion-related barriers related to race, class, sexual orientation and gender.”
