Dr. Joanna Pierazzo Appointed Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Programs

It is a great pleasure to announce that Dr. Joanna Pierazzo has been appointed as Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Programs at McMaster University commencing July 1, 2019 for 5 years. Dr. Pierazzo has acted as our interim for the past year.
Dr. Pierazzo joined the university in 1999 and has held several leadership and educational roles in the School of Nursing. Recently, she completed a three-year term as Chair of Curriculum for the BScN programs. The role provided Curriculum Leadership across the BScN Consortium for the Basic, Accelerated and RPN-BScN programs.
Dr. Pierazzo completed her BScN, MScN and Acute Care NP in the School of Nursing at Western University. She also completed her BEd, followed by a PhD in the Faculty of Education at Western. Her doctoral studies specialized in Educational Psychology and Curriculum.
Dr. Pierazzo brings a wealth of educational and leadership experience to our nursing programs. She has provided leadership in clinical nursing education, including the scholarship of Simulation-based Learning. Her clinical expertise is in the field of Clinical Neurosciences, with previous clinical appointments as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Regional Neurosurgery Programs. As an educator, she is involved in both undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Nursing. Her research interests include elements of educational psychology within the context of nursing education, including learner engagement, affect (learner anxiety) and self-efficacy. Content areas of focus include simulation-based learning, professional practice, clinical reasoning, and cognitive appraisal of affect.
