Congratulations to Carly Whitmore on being awarded a Vanier Scholarship.

The Honorable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, and the Honorable Kristy Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced the awarding of 166 new Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and 70 new postdoctoral fellowships Banting, for a total investment of nearly $ 35 million at Queen’s University in Kingston this morning.

Whitmore, a PhD Nursing student in McMaster’s School of Nursing, is a trainee with Dr. Maureen Markle-Reid’s Canada Research in Person-Centred Interventions for Older Adults with Multimorbidity and their Caregivers program.

“To be in the company of the extraordinary Vanier Scholar community is an honour,” says Whitmore. “Winning this award is not only a recognition of my community leadership and scholarly achievements, but, most importantly to me, signals that my proposed research is seen as beneficial to Canadian society."

The title of her research proposal is “Explaining Self-Reported Health Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults with Depressive Symptoms and Multimorbidity: A Mixed Methods Study” and she says receiving this award will allow her to spend more time on her research and focus on activities that enhance her research skills as a future nurse scientist.

“I am so grateful for the generous support that I am surrounded by in the School of Nursing, Aging, Community and Health Research Unit, from my peers, and my family. It is not lost on me that the training environment that I am in, and the faculty that I have been mentored by, all have played a significant role in my success with this award.”
