Above: Lorraine Lopez-Guerrero is a 4th year nursing student completing the practicum component of her Nursing Research course. Along with three other BScN students, she is working with Dr. Janet Landeen who is the principal investigator on the research project “70 Years of Nursing Educational Scholarship at McMaster: An Historical Analysis”. Lorraine is assisting the team in digitizing historical documents on the School of Nursing dating back to 1947. While these documents have been stored in the Archives of the Health Sciences Library, they have never previously been digitized. Lorrraine wears white gloves to turn the pages of the fragile document.

Above: The report for 1947-48 was typed on onionskin paper. It’s too fragile to bend and place on a photocopier, so researchers decided to photograph each page. They will then print a new copy, in order to minimize handling of the original, delicate document.
Above: Later reports from the 1990s on the scholarly activities of the School of Nursing.
The McMaster School of Nursing was founded in 1946. For more information about our story, visit the History Page of this website. To learn more about our research, visit the Research section.
