Farida Hesler, a School of Nursing Part-Time (Sessional) Instructor, has won the Hamilton Health Sciences Nursing Excellence Award for 2017.

Hesler has taught students at the Hamilton General, St. Peters Hospital and other agencies. She received her award on May 11.

The Award of Excellence in Nursing is presented to a nurse who: demonstrates leadership in the development of patient care; has significant contributions to the improvement of patient care at the agency, community, provincial or national level; utilizes and clearly articulates current research and theory applicable to nursing; encourages creative approaches to patient care; encourages development, implementation and evaluation of changes in nursing practice as well as developing professionally as an individual; possesses the ability to act as a change agent in nursing practice (e.g. is congenial, supportive, energetic, and enthusiastic).

"I am honored to be recognized by my esteemed colleagues and peers for this prestigious award of nursing excellence,” says Hesler. “I have always loved helping new nurses and nursing students navigate through their own journey of professional and educational development."

Ruth Chen, Assistant Dean, Academic Resources for the McMaster School of Nursing, concurs: “We are so pleased that Hamilton Health Sciences has recognized Farida for her nursing excellence. Farida plays an integral role in the professional development of our undergraduate nursing students and we are fortunate that she is a Part-Time Instructor here in the School of Nursing.”
