About Nursing Graduate Programs

The Graduate Nursing Programs at McMaster aim to advance the science and practice of nursing by developing graduates with the capabilities required to meet the complex health and health system needs of diverse populations, now and into the future. Integral to this aim is our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action to address health inequity among Indigenous people.

The four major and overlapping themes and outcomes of our curriculum:

  • Leading in Advanced Nursing Roles;
  • Creating Safe Environments and Sustainable Health Care Services;
  • Achieving Equity in Health and Well-Being Across the Lifespan; and
  • Partnering with People in their Health and Health Care.

Our graduates contribute to Achieving Equity in Health and Well-Being Across the Lifespan through expertise in Indigenous health, healthy aging, chronic disease prevention and management, and/or mental health. This aim is achieved by Partnering with People in their Health and Health Care and by Creating Safe Environments and Sustainable Healthcare Services. Establishing partnership relationships to improve health and health care is a core mandate of nursing practice. Our curriculum enables graduates to partner effectively with diverse individuals, caregivers, populations, and communities with health needs that may vary related to their cultural and situational contexts (e.g., values/beliefs, lifestyle, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation and identify, ethnicity, and social and environmental determinants of health).
