Nursing awards ceremony honours students and donors
Students from the collaborative nursing program at McMaster University, Mohawk College and Conestoga College were honoured on Monday at an annual awards ceremony.
This year, 102 students received more than 40 awards. The event attracted close to 240 attendees, including students, their families, faculty members and donors.
It was a collaborative event featuring all three BScN school partners. Dr. Sandra Carroll, Interim Associate Dean and Director of the School of Nursing (McMaster University) and James Humphreys, Executive Dean, School of Health & Life Sciences and Community Services (Conestoga College) gave the welcome speeches. Paul Armstrong, Vice President, Academic (Mohawk College) made the closing remarks for the ceremony.
Dr. Carroll congratulated the students on their outstanding academic achievements during the 2016-2017 academic year. “As Award recipients, you have not only demonstrated academic excellence, you have made meaningful contributions to your School of Nursing, University or College, and the community at large. The awards presented recognize leadership, scholarship, contributions to the community and special achievements,” she said.
Dr. Carroll thanked the generous benefactors and donors who made the awards possible. “I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the generous support for our outstanding student scholars.”
Dr. Pamela Baxter (Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Education, McMaster University, Professor Maria Riva (Associate Dean, Nursing, School of Health, Mohawk College) and Professor Heather Cross (Chair, Nursing Programs, Conestoga College) presented the awards to the students. During the ceremony, participants watched a video featuring students thanking the donors for the awards.
