2017 Awards Ceremony

School of nursing celebrates award winners and donors

School of Nursing students who have made an extra commitment were recognized in a ceremony this week that celebrated 130 awards from the generosity of donors.

Each year the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program of McMaster University, Mohawk College and Conestoga College celebrates the work of student nurses by hosting an annual ceremony to honour students who received in-course academic awards, recognition awards and nursing student service awards.  Several of the donors were in attendance as well.

"At Mohawk, Conestoga, and McMaster we have incredible people who remember their lives as students, who may draw inspiration from their nursing colleagues or from other donors who are not nurses but recognize the wonderful work we do," said Dr. Carolyn Byrne, McMaster's associate dean, health sciences and director of the School of Nursing.

This year students came up with a clever way to give thanks to the donors of the awards with a video played during the ceremony sharing student experiences and thanking the donors.

"Donors donate for different reasons, but at McMaster in the school of nursing we are fortunate to have the highest numbers of donors in terms of giving to our students. I cannot tell you how extremely grateful we are for this support. Thank you," said Dr. Byrne.

All three schools came together to celebrate the occasion with opening remarks made from Dr. Alan Neville, associate dean, health professional education of McMaster's Faculty of Health Science and Prof. Lori Koziol, interim dean of health science, community & urban studies at Mohawk College. Prof. Goranka Vukelich, dean of community services at Conestoga College, ended the evening with closing remarks.
