Graduation, Convocation, and Entry to Practice
Graduation & Convocation
Graduation and convocation processes are completed by both the BScN Program Office and the Office of the Registrar. Find more information about convocation details (e.g., dates, times, location) on the Office of the Registrar’s Convocation Details web page, here.
Even if you do not intend to participate in your convocation ceremony, its important to verify your graduation eligibility, to verify your legal name, and to notify the Office of the Registrar of your plans to, or not to, attend Convocation. Find more information about these next steps on the Office of the Registrar’s Convocation Details web page, here.
It is very important that you monitor your @mcmaster.ca email account, as any information sent from the Office of the Registrar and the BScN Program Office will be sent exclusively to this account.
Entry to Practice

The School of Nursing BScN Program Office automatically provides the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) with the names and contact information for all Level 4 students who are expected to complete their BScN degree based on the timelines below.
Find helpful information in the CNO Registration Guide.
Notification #1 notifies the CNO that you are enrolled in the required courses and are anticipated to complete all program requirements at the end of the term. This notification is referred to as the Verification of Course Enrolment (VCE).
It is very important for your biographical information (name, address, phone number) in Mosaic to be accurate so the correct information is shared with the CNO. Mosaic > Student Centre > Personal Information
Please ensure you have completed the Consent ‘Quiz’ on Avenue to Learn in CNO Consent. Academic Advising will send information about the ‘quiz’ to their @mcmaster.ca email account.
Once the CNO processes and enters this information into their portal, they will send an email to your @mcmaster.ca email account notifying you to sign up for the CNO online portal. Do not sign up for a CNO online portal prior to receiving the email from the CNO, as this will delay the CNO with processing your information.
Notification #2 notifies the CNO that you have successfully completed all academic program requirements and are approved for graduation at the next convocation ceremony. This notification is referred to as the Verification of Course Completion (VCC).
Any further communication from the CNO will be done through their online portal.
Notification #1 | Notification #2 | |
Expected Term of Program Completion: | VCE sent to CNO in: | VCC sent to CNO in: |
Fall | November | December* |
Winter | March | April* |
Spring/Summer | July | August* |
After Notification #2 is sent to CNO, you will receive a confirmation email to your @mcmaster.ca account from Academic Advising. It may take a minimum of 10 business days for CNO to update your profile and contact you to book your NCLEX. Please DO NOT contact CNO inquiring if they received your VCC. Instead, please wait for CNO to reach out to you.
*Notifications 1 & 2 dates are suggested only. Notifications may be sent later than noted as the program must evaluate each potential graduating student individually before sending information to CNO.
