Assistant professor of nursing and McMaster alumna Jenn Salfi will receive a national award for the third time this year.

Salfi has been named the recipient of the 2012 Award for Excellence in Nursing Education (Non-Tenured Position) from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). She will be presented with it at CASN’s annual awards reception in Ottawa on Nov. 13.

The honour acknowledges the contributions and accomplishments of individuals towards the realization of CASN’s mission, a critical component of which includes fostering the highest standards in professional nursing education.

"It is an incredible honour to be recognized for my role in nursing education, and I am grateful to my peers and colleagues within CASN who took the time to nominate me and select me for this award," said Salfi.

"Jenn has been deeply committed to nursing education since joining our School," said Catherine Tompkins, associate dean of Health Sciences and director, School of Nursing (SON). "She is passionate about teaching and consistently demonstrates the characteristics that this award is intended to recognize – leadership, innovation, mentorship and excellence in nursing education."

Earlier this year Salfi also won the 2012 Dr. John Gilbert Interprofessional (IPE) Education Mentorship Award from the National Health Sciences Students’ Association. As well, she was part of the Program for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (PIPER) team that won the 2012 Alan Blizzard Award for collaboration in teaching from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Salfi joined the SON in 1999 and is involved in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) in 1997, her Master of Science in 2001, and her PhD in 2004 at McMaster University.
