An open house event was held on May 18 to celebrate the relaunch of School of Nursing Research Support Services and familiarize the university community with its location, research team and types of support it provides.
Formerly known as the School of Nursing Research Office, the reason for the rebranding was "to more accurately capture the nature of the support we provide,' said Wendy Sword, professor and assistant dean of research for the School of Nursing (SON).
Since its inception just over five years ago, the list of services provided by the Research Support Services office has grown to meet the emerging needs of SON faculty members and others from external departments. Originally, staff assisted with tasks involved in preparing research grants for SON faculty, free of charge. This included things like updating literature reviews, developing research budgets, and consultation regarding study design.
While these activities continue, the group now also provides support for funded research projects to SON faculty members and others on a fee-for-service basis. This assistance with discrete research-related activities, such as data collection, data analysis and manuscript writing, as well as overall project coordination, is particularly helpful for faculty conducting short-term studies or projects that do not necessitate hiring a full-time research coordinator or assistant.
All of the services mentioned above and more are performed by a dedicated team of research support specialists that includes Amanda Bradford-Janke, Sandy Brooks and Jennifer McGugan.
"We have received a lot of positive feedback from people who have used our services and been highly satisfied with the work of our team. These research support specialists are highly skilled and I’m very fortunate to have them,' said Sword.
School of Nursing Research Support Services is located in 3H25 of the Health Sciences Centre. For more information on the services available, please contact Wendy at email@example.com or Amanda at firstname.lastname@example.org.
