Welcome to McMaster University School of Nursing website.
As you browse through this website, you will soon see that the School of Nursing at McMaster University is a dynamic, innovative and exciting place to learn and work. As the Associate Dean, Health Sciences and Director of the School of Nursing, I am proud to lead this amazing school. The website will give you an overview of all aspects of our school. First however, I would like to mention the faculty and staff that drive this world renowned school. These are bright and energetic individuals who collectively are all focused on an outstanding student experience, excellence in innovation and placing nursing in the centre of healthcare.
Our School has had a rich history since its inception in 1946. For over 60 years we have provided leadership within the Hamilton community, and beyond, in nursing education, nursing scholarship and research, and nursing practice. Through a vast network of partnerships locally, nationally and internationally, and through the work of our faculty, staff, students and graduates, we have been successful in having a positive impact on the development of the nursing profession for the 20th and 21st centuries.
Hospital and community partners locally and across Ontario provide quality learning opportunities for our undergraduate nursing students, and join with our faculty and graduate students to generate and apply evidence-informed approaches to nursing through research and clinical practice. Internationally, the School of Nursing has a reputation for high quality undergraduate and graduate education, and visitors from around the globe travel to McMaster to meet our students and faculty. School of Nursing faculty and students also benefit from the opportunity to contribute to the development of nursing and health care internationally. Through clinical placements in countries around the world, students learn about and contribute to health care within different cultural and environmental contexts. Faculty members provide consultation and support in the development of educational programs and professional nursing organizations in countries including Pakistan, Sharja, Thailand, Japan, Australia and Sweden.
It is through the development and nurturance of the strengths and expertise of each of our students, faculty and staff that we enhance our capacity to improve health and quality of life for individuals and communities locally and around the world. Curiosity, innovation and a commitment to inspiring and working in collaboration with others are foundational to our current and future work. Please take this opportunity to explore the exciting initiatives at McMaster University School of Nursing through our website.
